Dayruit

There’s nothing better than a little Beirut in the day time. Summer is coming, or as my friend Hanna likes to call it “drinking season,” and taking your games outside in the sun is so much fun.

I know what you’re thinking: But Kim, what about the elements? The wind can influence the arch and trajectory of your ping pong ball! Dirt can make it’s way into your cup! The blinding sun (for those of you in cities sunnier than Seattle) causes you to squint! What if I don’t have sunglasses?!?

This is true.

But what of the benefits, friends! Vitamin D is supposedly good for your health! Men can take off their shirts (Tyler, I’m looking at you)! And besides, being outside and not in a dingy basement gives you permission to day drink!

People can’t judge because you’re simply outside, enjoying the weather with your favorite sport. It’s Beirut during the day, or Dayruit!

Some of you might refer to this game as beer pong and you would be wrong. Beer pong is played with paddles. Hence the ping pong aspect. It’s a fun game that can be played outdoors but the elements can hurt your play more.

Luckily, for me, I play with water cups. After I found out I was a glutard, I tried to continue Beirut play as normal but found the simple act of the ball landing in a cup of beer, then merely being rinsed in a cup of water and then landing in my cup of cider was enough to make me sick. I spent years making fun of anyone who wanted to use water. Years. Now, I have no choice.

Karma’s a bitch.

But I’ve learned my lesson. Go ahead and play with water. Whatever you need to do to enjoy Dayruit. Just remember to drink your share – no one likes a cheater.
